Welcome 👋

You’re here to get insights into how I think and work.

Why me? No idea. 🤷‍♂️ When people ask me why I’m organised, I strike a blank face and tell them I don’t know how not to. Now, thinking about it, it’s probably due to two things: curiosity and laziness.

💡 Curiosity makes me see the world as a problem. Not in a negative way. In a constructive way. Everything that I experience my mind instantly breaks into its components, analyses, and comes up with a structure and a solution.

🛋 Now the hard part is done, laziness takes over. I don’t want to solve that problem again, therefore create a system and either summarise, store the info or directly implement it in my life to easily access it in the future.

Welcome to Batko OS - the World as a System!
Be curious. Be lazy.

The biggest struggle at work is always prioritisation of important work over everything else.

What if I told you I have a system that will help you prioritise, plan, reflect, practice gratitude and communicate transparently?

In a work context - this is the single most effective thing I do.

Edrolo OS 📈

The Edrolo Operating System (OS) was designed by Edrolo’s co-founder Duncan Anderson (his blog here). Nick Crocker has a great write-up here.

Edrolo OS is a weekly email on a Monday morning (take 5 mins for Step #1 right now!).

There are three steps:

  1. Plan your week

  2. Reflect on your week

  3. Share it with the team

1. Plan Your Week

Take 5 mins right now and revisit your annual or quarterly goals.

What are your Top 3 priorities this week which will get you closer to achieving them?

Schedule a meeting with yourself blocking out time for you to work on each priority (this is a crucial part of the process!!).

If you’re sceptical that you’d ever do this consistently, then hit reply to this email, tell me and I’ll check in with you next week for Step #2 to hold you accountable.

2. Reflect on Your Week

Next Monday morning, take 15mins to reflect on your week.

Draft an email with these headers:

  • Summary of the Week - 2 sentences

  • Learning of the Week

  • Top 3 Priorities Last Week - 1 sentence about each

  • Top 3 Priorities This Week (same as step #1)

  • Kudos - practice gratitude and mention anyone you’d like to say Thank You to

👉 Click here for the Gmail template ✉️ or here for the text version.

3. Share it with Your Team

This is where the real magic happens.

It will increase your communication transparency, Edrolo consistency and goal accountability.

👨‍👩‍👧 Share it with your team or with a friend > if you don’t want to share it with anyone share it with me michael@startmate.com.au.

You just discovered the single most effective system in my toolbox.

These 20mins a week will be your time to practice planning, consistency, reflection and transparency.

The Edrolo OS email will at first make you feel vulnerable. If you are consistent, these feelings will subside and I guarantee you will feel liberated because rather than judge, your colleagues will jump in to help you with your goals. You will feel empowered by the new system, providing you with a newfound communication channel to align you and your team on your goals.

Hope you enjoyed the first edition of this newsletter

Can you share an example of the weekly share back message?

I'd love to share my OS. I've been doing it for 10 years...
