Are you saving up for a bike, car, house, renovations or wedding?
Do you wish you could fast-forward time and already be at that point?
Do you reminisce about how much time you had in uni, how life was before kids?
And wish you could only have one blissful day of peace and quiet?
Selective memory embellishes the past.
Current hardships make us fantasise about the future.
Somehow, the present is always the least appealing.
But the present will change.
In fact - the only constant in life is change.
Change will come.
It is inevitable.
And the present is the only time you are ever going to live in.
What if you look at your life in seasons?
Seasons come and go.
Summer is sunny, warm and we get to walk outside in a t-shirt, sun bake, but it can also be scorching hot.
Autumn is magical, colourful and we start to explore more indoors, but it gets darker every day.
Winter is crisp, snowy, we get to go skiing, rug up inside with a hot tea, but it is cold.
Spring is buoyant, fragrant, full of new life, but comes with regular showers.
There is no good or bad season - they just are.
We’ve accepted seasons for what they are.
What if you look at your life in seasons?
What is the season that just passed?
Did you move cities/countries?
Did you just graduate uni? Find a new job?
More importantly - what is the season that you’re currently in?
What defines your current present? This can be anything from health, kids, work, lifestyle, location, opportunities, time, friends, family, finance… You name it.
How is the next season you might be moving into looking different? Maybe you’re about to embark on a Fellowship, move cities, close off a big part of your life, or start a new one like having kids.
Define your current season.
It is unique.
It will pass.
Make the most of it as it will never come back.
Find the things you can and want to do in this season to make it special.
The grass is always greener on the other side.
The seasons will change, but this is your season to embrace.
Live your best life now.
If not now, when?
PS: This is not my theory. I heard it many times over the years and it is such a refreshing concept to keep coming back to.
The grass isn’t greener on the other side if you’ve been taking care of your lawn lol
